Partnering with Truth Initiative: Mental Health, Custom Sneakers, and the “Breath of Fresh Air” Campaign

Over the course of a year, I had the joy of partnering with Truth Initiative on their “Breath of Fresh Air” campaign—a project that deeply resonated with me both personally and artistically. This campaign explored the intersection of mental health and art, shedding light on how creativity can serve as a powerful tool for self-expression and healing. It was an opportunity to create meaningful work while sharing my story and encouraging others to do the same.
Designing a Limited Edition Streetwear Collection
The centerpiece of this partnership was a limited edition streetwear collection that included 35 custom-painted Air Force 1s and additional clothing featuring my signature Anxiety Swirls design. Inspired by my personal experiences with anxiety, the Anxiety Swirls design represents the chaotic and intricate patterns that often accompany mental health struggles like anxiety and panic disorder, while also symbolizing the beauty that can emerge from embracing those challenges and facing them head on.
The painting process was both therapeutic and intentional, allowing me to pour my emotions into each piece while creating something that resonated with the campaign’s mission.
The clothing line extended the visuals of the sneakers, translating the Anxiety Swirls into more wearable art. Together, the sneakers and apparel formed a collection that embodied the campaign’s message of resilience through creative outlets.
Expanding the Message Through Social Media Content
Beyond the collection, the partnership with Truth Initiative included creating social media content to amplify the campaign’s reach. This content highlighted the creative process behind the Anxiety Swirls design and offered glimpses into the behind-the-scenes making of the custom-painted sneakers and clothing.
Artist Spotlight Video: Sharing My Story
A highlight of the collaboration was the creation of an artist spotlight video, where I had the opportunity to share my personal journey with anxiety and how art has been a transformative and therapeutic force in my life.
In the video, I walked viewers through my creative process, demonstrating how I bring the Anxiety Swirls design to life on sneakers. I also spoke candidly about my experiences with anxiety, emphasizing how art has provided me with a space to process my emotions and find clarity where I can.
The goal of the video was not only to showcase my work, but also to inspire others to explore their own creativity as a means of navigating mental health challenges, rather than resorting to vaping nicotine.
The Personal Impact of this Partnership
Collaborating with Truth Initiative on the “Breath of Fresh Air” campaign was a very meaningful project for me. As someone who has personally experienced the impact of mental health struggles, this partnership allowed me to channel my experiences into art and storytelling that could resonate with others.
The Anxiety Swirls design is deeply personal to me, and seeing it become part of a larger conversation around mental health and self-expression was both humbling and so rewarding. The campaign reminded me of the power of art to not only tell stories, but to also create change and foster connection.
